TC (New) Requirements

 

A. Core Sequence (5 courses)
1) Int St 201-1 Global History
2) Int St 201-2 Global History
(See FAQ's #7 to determine which course you need to take if you have taken some world systems courses)
3) Poli Sci 240 Introduction to International Relations
4) Poli Sci 344 or History 319-3 American Foreign Policy
5) Econ 201 Introduction to Macroeconomics

B. Thematic Cluster (3 courses from one category)

Lists of eligible courses can be found each quarter at
the program office and on the web site. Thematic clusters must be completed with courses from at least two different disciplines.

Culture and Society:  Examines the origins, the range, & the ever-shifting configurations of heterogeneous societies on a global scale. Ethnic, Linguistic, Religious, etc.

Global Commons: Transnational problems & efforts to deal with them. Refugee flows, infectious diseases, population changes, humanitarian catastrophes, and environmental degradation.


International Political Economy and Development
: Analyze ways in which transnational economic, political, & societal forces interact to shape the world Economic prosperity, development, and social welfare. International economic environment, determinants of growth and development.

Issues in International Security: Explore the causes of threats to international security and the array of strategies for dealing with these threats. Violence from interstate wars, civil wars, ethnic conflicts, and genocide, terrorism, and weapons of mass destruction

C. Regional Electives (3 courses from one area)
Choose one of the following regional or thematic areas:
Africa | Asia | Europe | Latin America| Middle East


Within this area, choose one course from each of the following disciplinary areas:
1) Historical Studies,
2) Literature and The Arts, and
3) Beliefs and Social Systems. See suggested courses by region at the links above.

D. Integrating Project Seminar (1 course)
This is a small research course that will coincide with your Thematic Cluster. In order for us to ensure there is enough space in each class you will need to notify an International Studies advisor of your thematic cluster and whether you will be graduating early. If you are accepted into the honors program you will take a three part Honors seminar in the place of the Integrating Project Seminar.

E. Petition to Graduate
ALL adjunct majors and minors in International Studies must complete (2) two Petitions to Graduate, one in their disciplinary major and one in International Studies. If you fail to do this, the Registrar will not be aware of your adjunct major/minor in IS and will not give you credit for the work you have done. All Juniors should file a Petition to Graduate during Spring quarter with the International Studies Office.
