Maria De Simone

Maria De Simone is a Doctoral Candidate in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama with focuses in Gender and Sexuality and American Studies. Originally from Venice, Italy, Maria graduated from Universitá Ca’ Foscari with a B.A. in English and Spanish and a minor in art history. While at Ca’ Foscari, she was introduced to American drama and the history of popular entertainment, and went on to earn a Master’s in American literature. Following this, she worked in public and educational programing in the Roman theatre community. Since starting her doctoral studies at Northwestern, she has resumed her scholarly work on American theatre, specifically, the historiography of vaudeville and immigrant performers from Europe and China at the turn of the twentieth century.
